Ranking Member Torres Champions Efforts to Modernize Congress, Better Serve Constituents
Washington, D.C. — Committee on House Administration Oversight Subcommittee Ranking Member Norma J. Torres (CA-35) today highlighted the three letters she recently sent to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and the Architect of the Capitol (AOC). Ranking Member Torres’ letters champion her priorities of modernizing Congress and improving constituent services.
The letters sent to the CAO request two feasibility studies on: 1) providing a paid district transition aide for Members-elect to assist with constituent casework and 2) creating tools for House offices to track constituents’ customer-service experiences. The letter addressed to both the CAO and AOC inquires about the development of an application to submit requests for necessary repairs within the House buildings.
“The lifeline of every Congressional office is to serve our constituents. From day one to day one hundred, Members should be equipped with the appropriate staff, modern tools, and efficient applications to provide essential constituent services,” said Ranking Member Torres. “I am proud to use my position on the Committee on House Administration Oversight Subcommittee to champion efforts in support of congressional offices’ work. Whether newly elected or a senior Member of Congress, Members must have the capabilities needed to provide high-quality services to constituents, both in Washington D.C. and in the districts we represent across the nation.”
As the Ranking Member of the Oversight Subcommittee of the Committee on House Administration, Torres has direct oversight of congressional security and other matters relating to the legislative branch. This includes entities in charge of the day-to-day operations of the House of Representatives such as the CAO and AOC and federal institutions such as the Smithsonian Institution and Library of Congress.
